Campus Life

 
The school’s 17 acre wooded campus is located on the peaceful banks of Oak Creek, approximately 15 miles southwest of beautiful Sedona, Arizona. The temperate climate of this region makes it an ideal setting for teens to enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities.

Students live on campus in small houses or dormitories that are monitored by dorm supervisors. They are responsible for assisting the students with their daily routines and activities before and after school. The dorm supervisors live in the dormitories in their own rooms or apartments. By living with the students they are available day or night to help them with any issues that may arise.

  Our daily schedule provides the structure and routine that students need to help them develop self-discipline, self-reliance and a sense of personal responsibility.

DAILY SCHEDULE

6:30 a.m. Wake-Up

6:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Students get dressed, clean their room, eat breakfast and finish any dorm chores they are assigned.

7:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. Breakfast is served in the Cafeteria.

8:30 a.m. Classes begin and continue until 11:30 a.m.

11:30 a.m. - 12:35 p.m. Lunch is served.

12:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. Classes continue.

3:45 p.m. Students check in at the Residential Office to pick up mail, messages and packages.

4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Competitive Sports Practice

5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Dinner is served.

6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Students attend mandatory evening activities that may include Recreation Center Activities, time in the Computer Lab; board games in the Library, playing instruments in the Music Room, working out in the Weight Room, Horseback Riding, Tennis, Volleyball, Skateboarding, Basketball, Soccer, and swimming in season. Two times per week students who are on the Dean’s List may also shop at the local stores in Cottonwood or go to the movies or bowling in Sedona. The school provides trips to the public library during activity time.

8:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. This is the students’ free time. For those who require extra study or have homework, this time may be spent in study hall.

9:30 p.m. Students return to their dorms to prepare for the next days academics and activities.

10:00 p.m. All students must be in bed with the lights out

Our weekend schedule is more relaxed. Students are allowed to sleep in if they desire. Brunch is served at 9:30 a.m. Weekend activities may include concerts in Phoenix; Snowboarding in Flagstaff; Hiking the Grand Canyon; Camping and Horseback Riding in the scenic areas of northern Arizona; Mountain Biking along the red rocks of Sedona; shopping; movies; sporting events; paintball; water parks; fairs and festivals. Our students particularly enjoy the weekend pizza pool parties and luaus!

OCRS follows a merit point system which rewards students for engaging in positive behavior and eliminates privileges for those who engage in negative behavior. Students who do not follow the school’s written policies and guidelines lose points. Depending upon the infraction, students may be assigned chores and other work detail to be completed after school or on weekends. The students who follow the rules and generally engage in positive behavior are rewarded with points which may be exchanged for extra privileges.

Our unique program helps students recognize that their actions affect themselves and others. They develop the ability to consider all possible outcomes resulting from their decisions and their behaviors. They accept responsibility and consequences for their negative actions as well as the responsibility and rewards for their positive actions.
